Veterans Memorial Gets Green Light from Village Board

Veterans Memorial Gets Green Light from Village Board

The Greendale Village Board approved a “memorandum of understanding” with the Greendale Veterans Memorial Committee on September 15.

A veterans memorial at the corner of Broad Street and Southway in Greendale cleared a major hurdle on Tuesday as the Village Board approved a “memorandum of understanding” with Greendale Veterans Memorial Committee to construct a memorial at the site.

“The approval of the “memorandum of understanding” is the first step in the process of constructing a memorial for the veterans of Greendale,” said Veterans Memorial Committee Member Jay Chadwick. “With the execution of this agreement the committee will now begin fundraising in earnest to construct the memorial.”

“The Greendale Veterans Memorial Committee would like to thank the Village President, Village Board and Village Manager for their efforts in this project,” continued Chadwick.

Trustee Donna Ouellette was not present at the meeting. Trustees Sally Chadwick and Bill Kewan, are members of the memorial committee and abstained from the vote.

In 2014, the estimated cost for the memorial ranged between $220,000 and $250,000. For more information about the memorial, visit

THANK YOU Village Trustees for clearing the path for this well deserved and overdue Veterans Memorial. When the Memorial is completed, that corner is not only going to look more appealing, it is going to be the talk of the village. Kudos to those of you who voted for the transfer of this property from GSD to the Village. My family can’t wait for this to be completed. Thank you and God Bless all of you who have served and continue to serve not only our small village, but also this great country.

We only see Mr. Crapitto and Mr. Comiskey at GMS events. Never see the old timers.

The same school trusties also tried to kick the voters (the people) out our public school buildings on election day.

The same school trusites are ranked the worst school board in America.

Anyone seen a school trustiee lately at a community event?

I don’t agree with this decision from a purely reasonable and logistical place. I like this green space and would prefer to keep it natural. With close proximity to the school, I think it could be used for a community garden where students could care for it and learn at the same time, while providing food to shelters or to sell to the local restaurants. I support a veterans memorial but think there is a more logical place to put it in existing, foot trafficked areas near the gazebo where it will get attention from built in foot traffic and where parking is available or at the VFW post.

I am agree and I’m very glad this finally mess has been sorted out by our village board. The school board on the other hand has emitted way too much toxicity into our community. Remember who voted AGAINST the veterans to begin with! Vicky and Mel still sit on their school board thrones.

Yes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Our Village Board did the right thing and fixed what our pathetic school board didn’t have the courage to do.
